Graduates 79 Medical Records Training Students 06/10/07
Los Angeles, CA –
East Los Angeles College’s contract education department, the Regional Contract Academy of Training (RCAT), successfully graduated 79 students from three cohorts of beginning and advanced Health Information Technology (HIT) classes; all students now hold Medical Records Coding certificates.
In recognition of their success, a graduation ceremony and reception was held in ELAC’s Student Center on June 6th from 1 to 4 p.m. The event was well-attended by more than 300 students’ families and friends as well as ELAC administrators and representatives from the educational partnership: Los Angeles Workforce Health Care Workforce Development Program, Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Service Employees International Union Local 721, and East Los Angeles College.
Successful completion of the HIT program not only benefits the individual graduates, but their families and the health care community they serve. By increasing their skill level, graduates raise their earning potential, giving them the advanced skills needed to attain jobs which will better support their families. Most graduates of these cohorts have indicated they will continue their education by going onto advanced certificate trainings classes as well as courses for college degrees. Graduates of the two beginning HIT cohorts are scheduled to continue their education in new advanced programs starting in June and December this year. Many of these students will also be taking courses at East Los Angeles College which will complete the necessary requirements for an Associate of Science degree simultaneously with completing their coding coursework.
Congratulations to these hardworking graduates!
